Thankful Thursday – #1

Last summer, Dave Matthews Band went on their Caravan tour – they played 3 day shows at 4 different venues. As you might remember, the weekend they were scheduled to come to Governor’s Island, Hurricane Irene was also scheduled for a visit. By the Thursday before, we already knew that the Saturday and Sunday shows were postponed. As it got later in the day on Thursday, people were all over Twitter talking about Friday’s show – if they were going to travel into town, if it would go forth, would it rain, etc. Somewhere along the way, I ended up exchanging tweets with Liz and, in turn, Erica. I can’t remember if I first ran into them during the one show at Governor’s Island or the rescheduled ones at Randall’s Island. Either way, I got to meet them albeit briefly. Erica will be at The Gorge Labor Day weekend too so I’m hoping for some tailgating! 😉

Anyways, Erica blogs over at No Cheez Pleez and started up a little Thankful Thursday link up recently! After the week I’ve been having, there’s a lot to be thankful for…

  • The world’s most patient husband. I’ve had one hell of a week dealing with communication and personality issues at work. I’m trying my best not to bring these problems home all the time because it gets exhausting. But, when I do, my wonderful husband listens (over and over), gives advice, lets me cry – whatever is needed! And for that I am extremely thankful.
  • Having a job. As much as I complain sometimes, I need to look at the bigger picture and simply be thankful that I have a job.
  • That it’s almost Friday! I’m so in need of the weekend!

What are you thankful for this Thursday? Visit Erica and link up!

Top 5 Tuesday: Celebrity Crushes

Just Peachy

She’s back with “Top 5 Tuesday” – yay! Join and link up with Rachel at Just Peachy!

This Tuesday’s topic? Celebrity Crushes. Mmm.

1. My “Bad Boy” Celebrity Crush – I don’t know what it is about Eminem aside from that “bad boy” appeal. But I’ve been in love with him since I was about 15. Yes, it’s been that long…

2. My “You’re Almost So Young It’s Illegal” Celebrity Crush – Taylor Lautner. Clearly I’m all “Team Jacob” here. Aside from the fact he was born in 1992 (seriously!), I drool. (This picture might have something to do with it too…)

3. My “Athletic” Celebrity Crush – I’m obviously a die-hard Red Sox fan and like to joke that Jacoby Ellsbury is my boyfriend (J is not a fan of those comments…). Now if only he’d get healthy and start playing again! I kinda met him once too. Back in December of 2007, he came to one of the Boston FYE stores (remember that place?) to sign copies of the 2007 World Series DVD. I was working around the corner and decided to stop by to get a DVD signed as part of J’s Christmas gift. I sat outside in the cold, slushy weather for nearly 2 hours. But to see him – oh man. I wish I had the pictures from my old camera phone…

4. My “You Could Maybe Be My Dad” Crush – Again, I think it stems from the whole Jack Bauer, “bad boy” appeal… Especially because he’s apparently a bit of a jerk in real life.

5. My “As Long As You Keep The Cowboy Hat On” Crush – Sorry Kenny Chesney but it’s true. I promise it’s not the hair (or lack there of), you just look better with the hat on…

For more eye candy, check out Kristen at Love, Lipstick, and Pearls for her weekly “Hot Man Parade” every Friday. You won’t regret it, I promise!

Who would you pick for your Top 5?

Top 5 Tuesday: Best Things About Summer

Just Peachy

Link up with Rachel at Just Peachy!

1. Vacations

Since going to Puerto Rico for Thanksgiving, we haven’t really had a vacation. Yes we went to TN for a long weekend but I’m talking relaxing, beach-y vacation. I have a bunch of trips coming up in the second half of the year and I cannot wait. The first is in July and will consist of a lot of this:

and this:

2. Iced Coffee. Preferably coconut flavored. So good.

3. Fruit
For the longest time (high school to last summer), I haven’t been able to eat most fresh fruits without my lips and mouth getting itchy and swollen. Finally, last summer I saw a new allergist and got a patch test done which revealed a million and one allergies (no joke, I’m on 3 drugs for it!). Turns out, all of my outdoor allergies cause a reaction with fruits – it’s called oral allergy syndrome. Weird but interesting. Now, a little Zyrtec in the morning (every morning, every day) and fresh fruit is my best friend! So I’m making up for lost time and eating a TON of fruit. We’re just nearing fruit season and I’m so excited for all sorts of berries!
4. Sun & Sand (okay, pool)
My current apartment building has a pool which I’m going to miss terribly next year when we move. So this summer I will be taking FULL advantage of it, every possible weekend!
5. Concerts
Right now, there are only 2 on tap for this summer, but I’m just as excited!
Can’t wait to see these fine men:

And this man:

What are YOUR best things about summer?

Ten on Tuesday – #11

Ten on Tuesday (on Wednesday. Again.)

Hosted by Chelsea, questions for this week were provided by Chelsea:

1. How do you take your coffee?
Getting ready in the morning at home – always hot coffee.
Buying coffee out somewhere – summer = iced, winter = hot.
Flavors = year round!! No plain coffee for this gal 😉

2. Do you prefer soft or crispy chocolate chip cookies?
Soft cookies, hands down! Don’t even have to think about this one.

3. Do you wear a belt everyday?
No. I usually wear one with jeans but for work, I only wear a belt occasionally.

4. What is your favorite color combination?
Shades of pink with navy is my favorite. Love pink but the navy gives it a more preppy look!

5. Do you like sour candy?
Absolutely. I love chocolate but most of my candy cravings are satisfied by sour/sweet things – sour patch kids/fruits, swedish fish, twizzlers.

6. How often do you do laundry?
Because I work ridiculous hours, I only do laundry on the weekend. I hardly have time to relax on weekends so the last thing I want to do is laundry. You can read all about my feelings on laundry in this post. To sum it up? Not a fan. At all. I cannot wait to move and have someone do all of my laundry for me!

7. Did you ever wear braces?
Oh yes. For about two years – from 7th grade to 9th grade. And then a retainer. Which I may or may not still wear at bedtime every Sunday night… (what?!)

8. Are you good at Roman Numerals?
This is probably not something most people brag about but I am. I love roman numerals. I could win a roman numeral competition, I’m that good. I love seeing them in crossword clues/answers too. LCDM helps me remember –> Live Cat Dead Mouse –> L=50, C=100, D=500, M=1000

9. What is your favorite form of social media?
I was a big Facebook fan but I don’t know how I feel about it lately. I don’t have the new “timeline” feature yet but there are other changes that I’m kinda meh about. I’ve gotten more into Twitter this year but I don’t think I’d call it my favorite. So I guess Facebook still is?

10. How do you feel about chin dimples?
Take em or leave em. Don’t really have a preference either way. My husband calls them “butt chins”. It’s not like someone has a choice whether to have one or not. But I will say, some are more attractive than others.

Ten on Tuesday – #10

Ten on Tuesday – I cannot get the formatting of this post right. I’ve tried a million different times to space it out evenly but it just isn’t happening. So I’m throwing the towel in.

Hosted by Chelsea, questions for this week were provided by Melissa at I’m Living in a Dream:

1. What is your dream vacation?
I don’t know, I’ve never really thought about it? There are SO many places I haven’t been that I want to see so in a way everything is a dream vacation!
2. What has been your favorite trip so far in your life?
Hands down, our honeymoon! We spent a glorious two weeks in Koh Samui, Thailand and Hong Kong. Despite the fact that it was our honeymoon, I don’t know when (or if!) I’ll ever be able to take 2 weeks off from work again. And who knows when I’ll be able to get to the Pacific either!
3. If you and one of your best friends could go anywhere in the world for one week, where would it be and why?
See #1 – J is my best friend (cue cheesiness) so any time I can get a week away from work with him, I’ll take it! Martha’s Vineyard is our special place so I’d love to have a week there together.

4. Have you ever booked a trip using an online deal? How did it go?
I have. J and my first vacation was about 6 months into dating. We went to Paradise Island, Bahamas and booked the trip through CheapCaribbean.com. I had better luck with the site back then… They have awesome deals but usually you find the perfect place and flight times suck or vice versa. We’re going through that right now for a Thanksgiving trip we’re looking to book.

5. What’s your favorite thing to do while you’re on vacation?
I like a mix of sight seeing and relaxing! Give me a beach day, give me a day walking around – anything out of the office and I love it 🙂

6. Have you ever missed an opportunity to take a trip that you regret?
I don’t know if this counts as a trip but I regret not studying abroad in Spain during college. Of all things/reasons, I didn’t want to leave my boyfriend at the time (who was long distance anyways) which is such a dumb reason and I kick myself now for it.
7. You travel far away from home and get stranded with no way to buy anything, what’s the one thing you can’t live without?
Chapstick! No hesitancy whatsoever. I cannot live without it. I have a stick on me at ALL times. If I don’t, I will go out and buy one. And that rarely happens. What’s interesting (at least to me), is that I’m not one of those people who has a stick for every room. I use just one and carry it everywhere – to work, to the gym, to the kitchen/living room, next to my bed, the bathroom. If I’m there, my chapstick is there. It’s not a healthy addiction!Well, I guess it could always be worse?
8. What’s one of your favorite traveling memories?
Hmm. Aside from my honeymoon, probably my first vacation away with J. It was also one of my first “big girl” vacations on my own and we had such an awesome time.
9. All included resort or backpacking? Why?
All included resort. Unless it’s glamping. I’m just not a pee in the woods, sleep on the ground, no showering type of girl. Sorry, can’t pretend I am!
10. Are you more of a lie on the beach kind of person on vacation, or do you prefer to see the sights?
See #5 – I’m a mix. I like to do a bit of both. Although J and I have been known to CRAM our vacations with anything and everything possible to do. Sometimes we have to remember to include some relaxing time.

Ten on Tuesday – #9

Ten on Tuesday (on Wednesday – since that’s how this week is going!)

Hosted by Chelsea, questions for this week were provided by Chelsea:

1. What temperature do you keep your thermostat on during the day?
Well, first, I’d need to have a thermostat… Can’t remember the last time I lived in an apartment that had one? It was pre-J so 5 years ago? Our first apartment together in Boston had hot water radiator type heat. There was a valve we could close to limit how much steam (aka heat) was let out. But that was it. Every apartment we’ve lived in since moving to the NYC-area has had hotel-style heat/AC. Basically a wall unit that is either high heat, low heat, high AC, low AC, high fan, low fan or off. Those were the only options. Not exactly ideal either. Our current apartment is terribly insulated so most of the year it’s either really hot or freezing. Last winter I slept in long sleeves, sweatshirt, pants and at least one pair of socks. Sometimes two. And usually still froze in bed. You’re all just dying to come sleep over, aren’t you?! So truthfully, even if I had a thermostat, I don’t have the slightest clue what I’d set it at.

2. What temperature do you keep your thermostat on at night?
See above answer 😉

3. In a canister of mixed nuts, do you pick out certain varieties and leave the others?
I don’t choose mixed nuts for that very reason… And also for allergy reasons. (which luckily aren’t life threatening allergies). But if I had a canister of mixed nuts, and no one else to eat my least liked kinds, I’d probably eat them all so they wouldn’t go to waste.

4. What is your favorite kind of M&M?
Yum!! All of them?! Seriously, there are so many awesome kinds these days! Friends of ours work for Mars and use to be in the candy division (now they’re in pet food) so we’d get to try new M&Ms before they even hit the market which was cool. Not sure I can pick one favorite… Peanut butter, coconut, pretzel are all good!

5. How do you buy books? (Amazon, bookstore, new, used, electronic, etc)
I usually borrow them from the NY public library. If I buy, I try to find them used and cheap which is usually online. If I can’t wait then I’ll buy them new locally. No e-reader yet… Hopefully soon??

6. How do you like your eggs cooked?
Depends how I’m eating them. Alone for breakfast = scrambled or omelet. Breakfast sandwich = over hard/fried. Lunch sandwich (aka egg salad) or alone = hard boiled.

7. Can you whistle?
Kinda. I’m not very good at it though.

8. What common word do you always misspell?
Maintenance – not sure why but it’s a toughie for me! Awkward use to be another one – I always wanted to put a “c” in there (ackward).

9. Are you afraid of flying?
Not really. Doesn’t phase me.

10. How often do you go shopping?
Surprisingly not very. J and I are very controlled with our spending and hardly ever just “shop” without a purpose. My savings account appreciates it 🙂

Ten on Tuesday

Hosted by Chelsea, questions for this week were provided by Chelsea:

1. What is your favorite brand of shoes?
I’m not really too brand loyal. I have a lot of Nine West shoes though, likely because they’re almost always on sale at the outlets.

2. How old were you when you learned to tie your shoes?
I honestly have no idea! When does one even start learning to tie their shoes?!

3. How do you feel about freckles?
I don’t? I don’t really have any but I think they look cute on some people! Then again it’s not like you CHOOSE to have them…

4. I can count to ten in ___ languages.
Two – English and Spanish. Three if you count gibberish?

5. What is your favorite store-bought ice cream flavor?
We don’t keep ice cream in the house… But if we go out somewhere for ice cream, I usually go with little kid flavors – cotton candy, bubblegum, cake batter. My favorite blizzard from Dairy Queen growing up was nerds (so good!!). I love a lot of the limited flavors at the grocery store though… Red Sox themed flavors, Girl Scout cookies, etc. Also, anything coconut or caramel is usually a given. Not combined though 😉

6. Were you in ballet or gymnastics as a little girl?
Both. I took ballet/dance class from age 3 to 8 or so? However, I have never in my life had a “ballerina” figure, lol. And I have zero rhythm. I’m the furthest thing from graceful! I also took gymnastics when I was a little older – maybe 10 – 11?

7. Who is your favorite Sesame Street character?
I loved Elmo growing up. Really, who didn’t?! I also liked Zoe – the girl with the orange hair. Sesame was popular in late elementary/middle school. I use to have a small tote, purse thing made out of this plastic-y material and it had Sesame Street characters printed all over it. I thought it was very badass at the time, LOL.

8. What’s your bedtime?
I’m an old lady… During the week, I usually get ready for bed around 10:00 p.m. and lights are out between 10:30 and 11:00 p.m. Sometimes later but that’s the norm. On the weekends, I’m usually in bed by midnight, at the latest. Often times before that.

9. Do you have any jewelry that you wear every single day?
My earrings rarely come out – little CZ hoops (hoping to replace with real ones soon!) and diamond studs. I wear my engagement and wedding rings and a Cape Cod bracelet 24/7. I also have a matching Cape Cod ring I wear almost every day. And, with the exception of casual Sundays when I don’t go outside, I’m almost always wearing my David Yurman bracelet that J gave me as a wedding present.

10. Who is the bug killer in your household?
Depends on the type and size of the bug. Or if I’m home alone and don’t have a choice. I usually hand that task off to J though 🙂
